The time is NOW  to plant your cold weather vegetables!! Did you know that you can plant and enjoy an entire crop of vegetables before the traditional Mother's Day planting? Vegetables like radishes, carrots, lettuce, spinach, onions, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet peas, and more LOVE and need this cool weather to thrive. They are planted in the spring and fall. Before and after your tomatoes, peppers, watermelons, and squashes. Some can be replanted all year - like radishes- which can be harvested each month! So, plant the seeds and get the plants into the ground. Stop by the shop and we will get you started and help you along the way. Start growing, harvesting, and serving your family the freshest, healthiest, and as local as you can get meals! Make it a family affair. They will love you for it!

Homemade Pumpkin Soup Recipe

Perfect for your pumpkin, onion, and garlic harvest!

 Homemade Pumpkin Soup

4  cups of pumpkin puree ( save seeds for toasted pumpkin seeds ) fresh or canned
6 large carrots
1 onion
olive oil
3 cloves of garlic
1 Fresh rosemary large sprig ( strip needles off  and chopped) or tablespoon dried rosemary chopped
1 tsp crushed sage
1/2 tsp crushed marjoram
pinch of dried ancho pepper to taste
1 can organic coconut milk
2 quarts organic chicken broth/ stock
sea salt and black pepper

Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Cut carrots, garlic cloves and onions in chunks and spread on baking pan. Sprinkle with olive oil, sea salt, and pepper. Mix and roast in oven for 30 minutes.

Add above mixture to large soup pot with 1 quart of chicken stock, sage, dried ancho pepper, and marjoram. Bring to boil and cook for about 25 minutes or until carrots are soft. Add pumpkin, coconut milk, and the other quart of chicken broth.  Mix with hand blender.

Serve hot and enjoy! Salt and pepper to taste and top with toasted pumpkin seeds (optional )

Milo Shammas- Dr. Earth- Visits The PURE Gardener!


Milo Shammas, AKA Dr. Earth, recently visited The PURE Gardener. He and Craig exchanged ideas and discussed organic gardening and the tremendous benefits it has on plants and the earth. The PURE Gardener carries Dr. Earth soils and fertilizers, uses them on our personal gardens, and highly recommends them for your garden.
